Beulah (Be-you-la), named after the owner’s ancestors, is a truly special family-owned and operated epicurean destination for the modern day foodie right in the heart of Downtown Sarasota. Harva Harp, co-owner and visionary for the restaurant says, “We wanted to create a place rich in romantic ambiance yet with a casual dining nature, for a special occasion or an after work get-together.” With a dining room and garden terrace rich with romantic baroque influences, a carefully selected offering of stunning wines to complement the alluring menu, and handcrafted cocktails, Beulah’s is as distinctive as its name.
Harva and her family pride themselves on their fine service and selection of quality products for both food and drink. The culinary team works closely with Harva and her chef-husband Flavio, who is originally from Turin, Italy, creating innovative classics and cross-culture cuisines with influences from Mediterranean cultures and The Americas. Ingredients are sourced whenever possible from regional farms, and also from as far as California, Chile and Italy. Their menu changes at least two to three times a year, but it is the daily specials where Flavio, Harva and their team tempt their guests with innovative creations using the season’s freshest ingredients.
Beulah’s house specialties include veal entrees, pompano, halibut, salmon, and the grilled octopus is a perennial guest favorite. The diverse offerings also include wood-fired pizzas, fresh breads, and delicious desserts made in-house in their “scratch kitchen”. With neighboring boutiques such as Penzey’s Spices and Vom Fass for specialty oils and vinegars, Beulah’s enjoys being able to find unique ingredients while at the same time supporting their fellow Sarasota merchants. Gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and other dietary restrictions can be accommodated. The bar at Beulah’s uses mainly organic ingredients, some of which are sourced locally from Whole Foods and spring water ice is available on request.
From the moment you walk through the antique green front doors, all your senses will be stimulated throughout your visit. The comfortable and casual fine-dining setting is influenced by the modern baroque, mystical décor. Over the years, Harva has acquired special pieces during her worldly travels. Some of the glass pieces were handed down to her from her grandmother. “The matching pair of milk glass tulip chandeliers were hanging in my Nana’s hallway for more than 35 years,” Harva proudly boasts. “I remember them vividly from when I was little. Much of everything else was chosen with lots of thought.” Beulah is also known for their unique, handpicked glassware. Hand painted chairs and tables, in addition to antique chandeliers, have created the perfect setting for the dining room and seating at the full-bar and pizza bar.
Beulah’s Garden has plenty of comfortable seating outdoors with full-service and smokers can be accommodated on the east side of the garden. Four- legged friends are welcome to dine at Beulah in the outdoor seating areas.
Located in Downtown Sarasota at 1766 Main Street with plenty of parking nearby, Beulah’s is easy to find.
